Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. (“Pioneer”, “us”, “our”, or “we”) has created this Privacy Policy to advise individuals located in Canada (“you”) about how we use, disclose, and protect the personal information we receive or collect about you through: pioneerelectronics.ca and any other Pioneer website that links to this Privacy Policy (each, a “Website,” and together, “Websites”); our service providers; third parties whom you have authorized to provide us with information, such as our authorized dealers, email communications; and offline interactions with you, such as when you call Pioneer Customer Service.
Pioneer reserves the right to change its privacy policies at any time by posting an updated Privacy Policy. Each time you visit or use a Website or contact Pioneer, the current version of the Privacy Policy applies. Please look for notices on the home page for periodic updates. It is your choice to provide us with your personal information. By accessing or using any Website or providing us with your personal information, you indicate that you understand, accept, and consent to the practices as described in this Privacy Policy.
WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED AND HOW IS IT USED?
We collect information about you to facilitate providing products, services, and support to you, personalize and improve your shopping and viewing experience on the Websites, comply with our legal obligations, and otherwise operate our business. The following are the types of information gathered through the Websites.
Information You Give Us: When you interact with Pioneer as described below, you provide personal information that may include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, payment information such as a credit card number, and other information that identifies you or that is about you and can be reasonably linked to you.
We and/or our service providers receive and store information you choose to enter on our Websites or provide when you contact us, which is used to deliver the information, products, services and support you have requested and otherwise as described in this Privacy Policy. If you sign up for email newsletters or purchase or register Pioneer products through our Websites, you will need to set up an account, which involves providing your name and contact information and creating a password. Purchases will additionally require payment and delivery information. During the registration or account setup process or at other places on the Websites, you may have the opportunity to provide additional information about yourself and whether you would like to receive communications about Pioneer and our products and services.
We and our service providers use the personal information you provide for a variety of purposes relating to our business, including to:
- Process and fulfill product purchases through our online store, including any returns or service requests
- Deliver Pioneer and partner services to you, such as Amazon Alexa functionality for receivers with Alexa Built-in
- Provide you with information about Pioneer, its products, services, and partners depending on your request
- Register your product with us, including delivering information about the product such as the availability of firmware updates
- Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries, including to investigate and address your concerns and monitor and improve our responses
- Conduct surveys or market research in which you may choose to participate
- Help us better understand our customers and their interest in Pioneer and our products and improve our products and services
- Host and manage the Websites and email communications, for technical support of our systems, and otherwise for our business operations
- Detect and prevent fraud, security incidents and other suspicious activity and comply with law
- Enforce or apply our terms of use or terms of sale and other agreements, including for billing or collection
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of our customers or others
- Fulfill other purposes as described to you in this Privacy Policy and at the point of collection
Automatic Information: Certain information is automatically collected and analyzed whenever you interact with the Websites. This information may include the IP address used to connect your computer to the Internet, your domain name, country location, device and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system, entry and exit points/pages, and date/time of access. Our Websites use Google Analytics, which reports aggregate traffic to the Websites so we can learn how the Websites are used, diagnose problems, and improve the Websites. Google Analytics also reports aggregate usage statistics for videos embedded on the Websites through Google’s YouTube service. When you interact with Google services through the Websites, your information is collected and processed by Google in accordance with Google’s privacy policy, which can be found at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Cookies: The Websites use cookies (small text files set on your device) to record how you use the Website, remember your visits, and enable us to personalize your Website browsing experience, including allowing our system to record your logon and password. Similarly, we use technology that tracks and analyzes your interactions with our email marketing messages to you in order to measure and improve their effectiveness. If you do not want Pioneer or its service providers to deploy browser cookies when you visit the Websites, you may set your browser to reject cookies or reject them via the cookie banner when presented by a Website. Doing so may disable the Websites’ ability to retain information you have provided and affect your use of some of the features, functions, or services on the Websites, some of which may be necessary to perform the actions you are requesting.
COMMUNICATING WITH US AND OTHERS
Email: We use email to communicate with our customers, including to provide information about our products, services, company, and partners and as a channel for providing us feedback. If at any time you wish to remove your email address from Pioneer’s email marketing list, you can do so by selecting the opt-out option in our email messages or by updating your “My Account” settings online. If you opt out, we still may email you for non-marketing purposes with respect to your purchases of our products and services, for example the availability of firmware updates or any changes to services.
Other sites: The Websites have links to external websites not affiliated with Pioneer, including Pioneer’s presence on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Any non-Pioneer website, application or other content you may access from a Website or a Pioneer product will have its own privacy policy and practices that govern their collection and use of your information. Pioneer is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third parties, which you access and use at your own risk.
Advertising: We use various methods of identifying and presenting our advertisements to consumers who may be interested in our products and services and to measure the effectiveness of those advertising efforts, and we use third party advertising and analytic service providers to do so.
Do Not Track Signals: The Websites do not currently recognize automated browser signals regarding tracking mechanisms, which may include “do not track” instructions.
DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
Pioneer does not sell or rent your personal information. We disclose personal information to our affiliates (for example, our parent company) and to our service providers (including where they collect personal information on our behalf), for the purposes described under “What Information is Collected and How is it Used?” Pioneer may also disclose personal information: to certain of its business partners who provide services that complement or interoperate with our products and services; if required by law, court order or governmental regulation, such as in response to a subpoena, other legal process, or where we elect to comply with a law enforcement or other government request; to report activities we reasonably believe to be unlawful; or as necessary to exercise our legal rights, defend claims brought against us, or otherwise protect our interests. In accordance with applicable law, we may also disclose personal information to an actual or potential buyer or successor in the event of a merger, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution or other sale or transfer of some or all of our assets.
TRANSFER OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may process, store, and transfer your personal information in and to a foreign country, with different privacy laws that may or may not be as comprehensive as Canadian law. In these circumstances, the governments, courts, law enforcement, or regulatory agencies of that country may be able to obtain access to your personal information through the laws of the foreign country. Whenever we engage a service provider, we require that its privacy and security standards adhere to this policy and applicable Canadian privacy legislation.

THE SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
While we use reasonable physical, technical and organizational security measures in an effort to protect the personal information we collect from you, no security system is perfect and we cannot guarantee that your information will remain secure in all circumstances.
CHILDREN
The Websites do not provide services or sell products to persons under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information of persons under 16.
WITHDRAWING YOUR CONSENT
If you have provided your consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information, you may have the legal right to withdraw your consent under certain circumstances. To withdraw your consent, please contact our Privacy Officer. Please note that if you withdraw your consent we may not be able to provide you with a particular product or service.
ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION
We will give you access to any of the personal information that we have collected, used or disclosed about you upon your written request, to the extent permitted or required by Canadian law. You can also contact our Privacy Officer about the accuracy or completeness of the personal information we have about you at any time. We will respond to your request as soon as possible or notify you in writing if we need more time.
